With the holidays approaching, you may be looking to free up more of your budget to put toward gifts for friends and family. Perpay has you covered with some useful tips on how to lower your monthly bills and free up more space in your budget. Also, with small, scheduled payments Perpay is a great supplement to any of these practices.

1. Try Alternative Transportation Methods

If gas costs or tolls are eating up your budget, consider taking public transportation or using alternative methods like biking or walking to destinations.

2. Change Your grocery routine

Unplanned trips to the grocery store could lead to excessive spending. Taking steps such as creating a grocery list or buying certain items in bulk could save you some money over time. Practices such as buying at farmer’s markets or local grocers could also save you money on your monthly grocery bill. Choosing generic brands over name brands are also a great way to save on items! Additionally, packing lunch when going to work/school rather than going out to eat can go a long way for your wallet.

3. Reduce Your Energy consumption

You can lower your energy bills by using a few simple tips to reduce your energy consumption. By turning off and/or unplugging large appliances and other energy-consuming goods, you can lower the amount of electricity being used within your household and in turn, lower your electric bill. Adjusting your thermostat (lowering your heat during winter/turning off air conditioning in summers) while not home is a great way to save money on your heating and cooling bills throughout the year.

4. Cut the Cord

Consider which television shows, sports, and other entertainment you use and subscribe to a streaming service that offers your favorites. You will want to be mindful, however, of subscribing to services as signing up for too many could lead to paying for more services than you need and ultimately, spending more instead of saving.

5. Get Thrifty

When going shopping, consider buying sale items. Typically past models or older versions of goods are placed on sales or clearance due to manufacturers trying to rid themselves of inventory. Consider buying these items rather than the newest, top of the line goods. Also, consider buying lightly used clothes, furniture, and electronics. This can heavily reduce your costs when shopping for yourself or others.
